Today’s spice is 「Fennel」

Fennel

Origin of fennel is the Mediterranean coast. The part to be used as spice is seeds and leaf stems. It is a plant in which yellow florets bloom. Is not it a spice that is not so familiar in Japan? In India it is used as a bad bad omission.
In India, restaurants and mass eateries everywhere, fennel and cubic sugar in the table are together and handed over after meals. When I came across the sight for the first time, I did not know what to do. But the store clerk makes a gesture to eat, so I thought that it was “a candy of a yakinikuya” as I said in Japan, I ate as if I was a pretender. Peppermint mint? I like to have a taste like it. I will work more than candy! It was after a long time since I learned the meaning ^^;

Well, although it’s efficacy,

  • Taste: sweet,pungent
  • Function: cooling
  • Work: digestion,abdominal pain、difficult or burning urination
  • VIPAKA (taste after digestion): sweet
  • VPK analysis: Vata and Kapha and Pitta equality

Much of the spice plays a role to raise Vata and Kapa and lower Pita, but Fennel prepares everything so it works effectively for any temperament people.

Of course I use it not only after meals but also for cooking.
Because it has a sweet scent, it is called “fish herb”, it is useful in fish dishes, and it is actually included in curry and soup.
